"Handsome Harlequin."

A male Harlequin Duck rests peacefully on a river rock in Glacier National Park, Montana. Behind the lens. This has got to be the most interesting duck you'll ever cross paths with. I spent eight years studying Harlequin Ducks, from Glacier National Park in Montana, to the Straights of Georgia in British Columbia, to Prince William Sound in Alaska. In the latter years, I started carying my camera so I could put together a slide program to help educate people on how to conserve these little ducks. This is my favorite photograph from that program. To get an eye-level photograph of wild duck, you have to concentrate on nice thoughts and have an acceptable "gestalt" before the subject will allow you into its space.
