Seen from behind, the male Elegant Trogon displays a beautiful plumage of green and copper colored feathers. This is a Mexican species that just barely makes it up into southern Arizona.
Behind the lens.
This handsome fellow is usually photographed from the front (see next image), but I think the coppery tail feathers -- which are only seen from the back -- are mesmerizing. Note that I didn't remove any background to make this white. The bird was perched in deep shade while the background was full sun. To me, this makes it look sort of like one of Audubon's original paintings.
